A Community of Faith
The Church of Jesus Christ the Saviour is a living Orthodox community in the heart of Chișinău, founded in the tradition of the Holy Orthodox Church by Fr Dr Nicolae Grosu, Archpriest, serving the faithful with love and dedication. The foundation stone was consecrated on 1 April 1999. On the street that bears the name of the union of all Romanians — Alba-Iulia, a gateway towards Europe — at its junction with the road leading to the Balkans, stands the Church of "Jesus Christ the Saviour", cared for by its parish priest, the Reverend Father Nicolae Grosu.
The church stands in the northern part of the capital, in a district of high-rise housing. "There was truly a need to build this holy place here," says Father Nicolae, for the area holds many schools and kindergartens where, regrettably, our faith is not spoken of.
For everyone Father Nicolae finds counsel and the guidance they need — above all for young families crossing the threshold of this holy place for the first time. Neither in Chișinău nor anywhere in the country is there another church dedicated to "Jesus Christ the Saviour"; the patronal feast is celebrated on the second day after the Resurrection of the Lord. Through his work — pastoral, but also in cooperation with parishioners and with the relevant institutions — Father Nicolae seeks to make the moral life of young people richer and more beautiful, rising to meet their spiritual needs. In this the Church has a foremost role, and it carries out a programme of bringing young people into the life of the Church. Our calling, grounded in this truth, is to revive and renew the authentic values that define us. It is our duty to gather all the children of Christ's Church and to pray together — as a people, as a history, as a language and a faith.
